Ron Wyden rocks!

Filed under: Politics - Jason @ 8:07 pm

From Yahoo.

Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden tied up the Senate for more than 4 1/2 hours Thursday trying to force a vote on a plan to end subsidies of energy companies that lease federal land.

When majority Republicans refused to vote, Wyden, a Democrat, took control of the Senate floor, and refused to allow senators to move forward on a $106.5 billion emergency spending bill for Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war.

Wyden wins The Age of (un)Reason Award of Courage for standing up for his beliefs and the right thing.

Bush rubs elbows with a dictator

Filed under: Politics, Opinion - Jason @ 7:27 pm

Should we really be surprised?

You know what they say, birds of a feather flock together.  Bush associating with a corrupt dictator who abuses the human rights of his people.  Can’t really say its surprising.

I’d say its about 2397.

Row over spanish language version of the national anthem

Filed under: Politics, Opinion - Jason @ 5:48 pm

Oh for the love of

Basically, some music producer from the UK is producing a version of the US’s national anthem in spanish.  For some idiotic reason, a bunch of people, bloggers amongst others, are griping about it.  Why?  Because they think the anthem shouldn’t be sung in any language other than english.

I’m sorry, but I thought this was America, not the People’s Republic of White Anglo-istan.  The country is a salad bowl of different cultures, languages and peoples.  Having the national anthem translated into different languages and sung on those languages would be the most American thing of all.  One of the most idiotic "arguments" I’ve seen for why it shouldn’t be translated is this:

Would the French accept people singing the La Marseillaise in English as a sign of French patriotism? Of course not," said Mark Krikorian, head of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank that supports tighter immigration controls.

That’s pretty fucking stupid.  There are english translations of La Marseillaise and other foreign national athems.  Plus, its kind of a loaded question, since the French have a pride problem when it comes to that sort of thing.

As soon as the translation is posted, I’m posting them.

Da Vinci judge’s code cracked

Filed under: News, Humor - Jason @ 5:14 pm

Brilliant.

The lawyer who spotted the secret code has managed to crack it.  So, what was this message that was hidden in the Judge’s court ruling?

"Jackie Fisher, who are you? Dreadnought"

Jackie Fisher was an admiral in the Royal Navy who came up with the idea of the dreadnought class of warship.  The dreadnought was this frickin’ huge class of ship back in the late 1890s, early 20th century.  Bigger and more heavily armored and armed than a battleship.  It was the kind of ship that you really didn’t want to mess with, if you were an opposing naval force.

Yes, I am history geek. ;)

Congressmen arrested for protesting Darfur genocide

Filed under: News, Opinion - Jason @ 4:54 pm

Bully for them!

Five Democratic members of Congress were arrested at the Sudanese Embassy and led away in plastic handcuffs Friday to protest the atrocities in the Darfur region.

And the five were:

Tom Lantos, California

Jim Moran, Virginia

Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas

Jim McGovern and John Olver, Massachusetts

As I said before, bully for them!  We seriously need to do something about the horrible genocide in Darfur.  Over 300,000 have died so far.  Are we going to wait until its 500,000?  A million?  Two million?

These five deserve to be awarded for their initiative.  It would certainly be nice if tomorrow, the entire Congress were to protest out infront of the Sudan embassy.

A Wii-nner is you!

Filed under: Humor - Jason @ 11:22 am

As you’ve probably heard by now, Nintendo has changed the name of their newest console, the Revolution, to Wii (pronounced ‘we’).  Of course this has caused nothing but quite a bit of criticism and alot of puns.  For your viewing pleasure, some name puns!

Nintendo wants you to play with their wii-ner

Boy, Nintendo sure has a wii-ner in this console!

Nintendo’s wii-ner sure looks big

And it pretty much goes on like that.  Pretty much any sentence you can come up with that involves replacing weiner or winner with Wii.

Iran will ignore any UN resolutions

Can’t really say this is a surprise.

And I fear we are moving ever closer towards a violent conclusion.  Well, I guess if it comes to that, they can only blame themselves.

Holy hypocrisy, Batman!

I knew politicians had a tendacy to be hypocritical when it came to such matters, but Christ, thats on a whole new level.

I’m so tempted to file this under "Humor".
