Atleast Congress and some Republicans aren’t completely in Bush’s pocket.

A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal’s enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.

"The man shouted ‘God will save me, if he exists’, lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.

"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."

Apparently lions don’t like God?

NYC has no landmarks or icons worth protecting

Filed under: News, Opinion, Department of Homeland Security, Terrorism - Jason @ 3:27 pm

Note: I just replaced the original post with one I just came up with while posting about this at a forum.

You will not bloody believe this, but its been revealed today that the Department of Homeland Security is reducing the amount of money NYC and DC are recieving to protect against terrorism by 40% each.  Whats really bad is the reason DHS gave for cutting New York’s money:

New York has no national monuments or icons, according to the Department of Homeland Security form obtained by ABC News.

Yup, apparently the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and other great landmarks (like Sam Waterstone!) aren’t worth protecting against a possible future terrorist attack.  Neither is Washington DC, despite being the seat of all three branches of Federal government and the home to the headquarters of our fraking military, which actually came under attack!

Oh, but it gets better.  Much, much better.  According to the New York Times, several cities recieved big boosts to their funding, including Newark, New Jeresey, Omaha, Nebraska, Louisville, Kentucky, and Charlotte, North Carolina.  Now, Newark I can understand, since I believe there are a bunch of chemical plants there.  According to the article, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta, George recieved small boosts too.

Its been pointed out by some at another forum that these cuts may be political in nature, NYC and DC both voted Democrat in ‘04 and are solidly blue states (well, if DC were a state, it would be blue), while Nebraska, Kentucky, Georgia and North Carolina all voted Republican.  I mean, is it possible that they cut funding to "punish" New York and DC for not voting for Bush?  They gave LA more funding because its a prime target, especially since Jack Bauer isn’t there to protect it.

It just doesn’t make sense to me to cut funding to cities that have been attacked by terrorists, while boosting funds to cities in states that will likely never feel that pain?  But I guess this decision will be reversed after enough public outrage.

Man, they just keep screwing up

Not even Keystone Cops fucked up this much.

According to Taylor Marsh, Amir Taheri was invited to the White House to give his opinion on the situation with Iraq.  Who is Amir Taheri?  Remember that news story claiming that Iran was going to make its religious minorities (Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians) wear colored "badges", ala the yellow badges of Nazi Germany.  This story turned out to be untrue, despite what he says (he still stands behind the truthiness of it).

So the Bush Adminstration is relying on the opinions of an A-class bullshitter.

Belsan attacker gets life

Filed under: International - Jason @ 4:14 pm

ABC News.

The only suspect to survive the Beslan school siege was convicted in the deaths of 331 people many of them children and sentenced to life in prison Friday, touching off an emotional scene in which the mothers of some victims tried to attack the defendant in court.

Why exactly did he get life and not a bullet to the head?  This seems very un-Russian.

Talk about anti-climatic

Turns out that "gun shot" heard in the Rayburn building was just two construction workers, who were using a machine or something that made the sound.  Laaaaaaaaaaaaame.
